About CCRC
Reentry Affects the Entire Community
- Nearly 1 in 100 adults are in jail or prison
in the United States. That’s more than any other
nation in the world.
- The vast majority of individuals in state
prisons across the U.S. will eventually be released back to their
communities. More than half of them will return to
prison within three years. In California, 70 percent of parolees
are back behind bars within two years, more than twice the national
average.
- The relationship between crime and substance
abuse is well documented. In San Diego County during
2006, 75 percent of adult females and 66 percent of adult males tested
positive for marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and/or
PCP.
- California spends about $7 billion annually
for prisons. Add to this the cost of jails, court,
the inestimable suffering of victims and families, and the price
tag to our economy is truly staggering. The cost to operate the criminal
justice system is at the expense of our schools and other public
services.
- There are nearly 8,000 parolees in San
Diego County and 23,000 adults on probation. Nearly
100,000 adults were booked into San Diego County jails in 2006.
- Headquartered in San Diego, Community
Connection Resource Center has long been working to stop the revolving
door of recidivism to our jails and prisons, and helping
to turn individuals from tax burdens to responsible and contributing
members of our community.
