February 2009: Blanket and Linen Drive
Our residential programs are in need of sheets, mattress pads, blankets, comfortors and towels. We have issued a call for items in good condition. We always have a need for household donations, and we have a special need for gardening tools, such as lawn mowers, clippers and rakes. Please call the corporate office of Community Connection (619/543-8500) for drop off locations, or we'll be glad to pick up the items.February 2009: State Budget Crisis Increases in Scope
The State Controller's Office has withheld payments to many of its vendors for several months, including Community Connection. We are also affected as a subcontractor, not receiving payments when the contractor is not paid. This is creating an immense strain on our ability to provide services to our clients and to pay our bills. Many businesses, private and nonprofit, are struggling to stay afloat as the governor and legislators fail to reach consensus.November 2008: Las Patronas Grant Received
Las Patronas awarded Community Connection funds to help replace appliances for its residential substance abuse treatment programs. Affirmation House, Freedom House and Gemini House were able to purchase much needed items such as stoves, refrigerators, vacuums, and carpet cleaners. Thank you, Las Patronas!August 2008: Parolee Employment Program Suspended
As of August 1, 2008, the Parolee Employment Program was suspended by the California Department of Corrections (CDCR). This means that parolees in the San Diego area, as well as other locations throughout the state, will not receive the employment assistance they so desperately need. This was in response to the state budget crisis.
